Rainmapper Smartphone App @Rainmapper

Graduate students at the University of California at Irvine have developed the Rainmapper app, available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play store for near-real time global precipitation estimates to a 4km grid point available at your fingertips.  You can see global estimates at 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72hrs back in time.  It uses the PERSIANN-CDR (Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks – Climate Data Record) algorithm.  Data from this satellite dataset goes back to January 1, 1983.
