Debt Levels of Australian Famers at High Levels

Debt lending to Australian farmers is at high levels and many farmers are over extended with many different, diverse lines of credit according to ABC Rural.  Banks have been lending without much scrutiny for business plans.

This is important to the growth of the , GIS/Geomatics/UAV market in Australia.  While some farmers may have lines of credit open to cover operations, many will be overextended to not be able to cover UAV flights for crops or software licenses (e.g. Hexagon’s Power Portfolio Suites).  There may be a opportunity but with global commodity prices low at the moment for many crops, much of the financial over-extension will be just to keep the farm operations afloat and not invest in UAVs or Geospatial/Geomatics software to invest in the future for streamlining operations.
