Lake Region State College Agriculture Research with UAVs

Lake Region State College of Devils Lake, North Dakota has a strong focus on Agriculture research with UAVs.  Similar posts have been on this blog before, the Grand Forks Herald just published a recent story on the program.  Research has been underway since 2006 on the early stages of research.  Their research so far has shown to be able to reduce fertilizer costs by 6-16% by detailed UAV and satellite mapping.  The story does not show exact numbers but a flight of 160 acres produces more than 2TBs, which is the most common hard drive size currently on the market.  They are looking to expand research and have commercial applications after September 2015 in the US after the FAA should allow more UAV flights.

Of course their research can be applied across many other countries right now as they have less stringent UAV laws.  This is the time to put that research to application so the program can be ready when the FAA finally allows commercial UAV flights.
