India’s President Refocusing Bengal Engineering and Science University’s Priorities

India’s President Pranab Mukherjee is refocusing and renaming the Bengal Engineering and Science University to Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) in the eastern West Bengal region of the country.  His statements will increase the academic rigor of the school, which is known as a school that “engages in the sectors of disaster management, clean coal technology, power electronics, remote-sensing and GIS, space technology, biochemical sensors, structural engineering, VLSI and embedded systems”.  It will allow in-country growth with graduates also possibly given opportunities overseas with the remote sensing, GIS, and other Geomatics focus of the school.
