Greater Prune, India’s PCMC Starting to Map Utilities with GIS

The greater area around the west central city of Prune, just southwest of Mumbai, India is starting the process of mapping the utility assets (water, sewer, telephone, internet fiber, & power lines) of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) with GIS.  The PCMC is the local utility company of a dozen villages in and around Prune.  From the article, this is to reduce utility work accidentally damaging other nearby utilities.

This should be the first phase for the PCMC of mapping their infrastructure, GIS is the first phase and more Geomatics/Civil Engineering datasets based on remote sensing of the areas should expand in future years.
