GIS to beget more GIS/Geomatics

New Delhi, India is using a smartphone app to let residents submit their infrastructure problems.  They are one of many cities across the country and worldwide using a similar system to report problems to their local government.  This is a good step to building future infrastructure as you build up a database of problems.  It is a form of situational awareness for future planning and infrastructure improvements.

This will only beget more GIS, this database will prompt other databases and remote scanning for GIS/Geomatics, the lines, points, and polygons will go into LiDAR, orthophotos, oblique, and other data for future growth and infrastructure improvement.

India is still in the growth phase of their infrastructure, the United States is in the maintenance part of infrastructure growth.  Given how tight government budgets still are worldwide, the better mapping, the more efficient planning can be to keep a high quality of life for residents.
