India SmartGrid and Rural Project Tracking

There are a couple good stories from India on improvements to their GIS applications.  The first is India’s Ministry of Power is pushing to speed up the pace of development of smart grid technologies.  They have created the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) standards.  Currently 40% of India’s population has no reliable access to electricity.  The plan (scheme) is to work in modern smart grid technologies into new development and increase existing power infrastructure.  This will lead to better planning with GIS/Geomatics power line surveying and deployment.

Also, the far eastern state of West Bengal they are tracking rural development projects, there are around 1000 in the state and it is being used for tracking development schedules and keep projects on schedule to help the areas they are planned for.
